The ins and outs of assistants' accommodation
  1. Trevor Turner

Trevor Turner qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1958 and less than a year later started a practice in Northolt, Middlesex, which he maintained on a single-handed basis for over 12 years. Today the practice is a veterinary hospital employing four veterinary surgeons and 10 veterinary nurses, the majority of whom are accommodated offsite.

Unlike their European and North American contemporaries, veterina assistants in Britain traditionally receive accommodation with te job. Here, TREVOR TURNER discusses the value of the benefit and asks, should the profession instead be paying a ‘living wage’?
