THE Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons has conducted two surveys, one in 1995 and one earlier this year, investigating the salaries earned by veterinary graduates in their first job. The aim has been to give an indication of the prevailing rates of pay for full-time assistants in UK veterinary practices in order that they may be used as a starting point in salary negotiations between employer and employee. In this article, Christine Shield presents some of the findings.
