Creating your own CPD programme
  1. Hamish Macandrew

Hamish Macandrew is training manager of UnivEd Technologies, the University of Edinburgh's external liaison unit. For the past eight years he has worked closely with the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies assisting in the organisation of a wide range of CPD courses.

TRADITIONALLY, the range of CPD courses on offer to the veterinary profession has been fairly adhoc, dependent on provider availability rather than 'customer' demands. Recently, however, things have started to change, with many professions, such as the law and engineering, seeking a more structured, logical approach to training which can be planned at least a year in advance and tailored to the needs of an organisation's personnel. The veterinary profession has also started to follow suit and, in response, the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies recently launched a ‘customised CPD’ programme. In this article Hamish Macandrew explains how it operates.
