THE Fort Dodge Index allows companion animal practitioners and practice managers to monitor a number of key marketing performance indicators and thereby compare the performance of their own practice with that of other participating practices. In a follow-up to his introductory article published in the February issue of In Practice, David Cormack looks at some of the results from the 1998 index, concentrating particularly on the management issues raised by the data generated. A future article will discuss trends in the health status of companion animals under the care of the practices participating in the index.
