Experiences of a working sabbatical
  1. John Head

    John Head qualified on a Friday from the Royal Veterinary College in 1972 and started work in the family practice the following Monday. He is now a partner. He is a past-president of the Cornwall Veterinary Association and has been a member of both the SPVS and BVA councils.


TRAPPED in practice? Daily grind getting you down? Indispensable within the workplace? Not so in John Head's practice. Since 1976, partners and assistants in his nine-person practice in Cornwall have been able to take a sabbatical, whether to return to university, or to work for a period of time in a different country. In this article, he reflects on a sabbatical he took in South Africa and explores some of the practicalities of setting up such a trip.
