IT and the changing face of referral work

    Pip Boydell qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1984. After a couple of years in the surgery department at the Dick and in referral practice in London, he completed a residency in ophthalmology at the RVC. He subsequently co-founded the Animal Medical Centre Referral Service in Manchester. His main interests include neuro-ophthalmology and ocular imaging, interspersed with some wild-crazed rockabilly.


AS more advanced IT equipment becomes accessible, the scope for referral practices to incorporate it into everyday tasks and to improve the facilities they can offer increases all the time. In this article, Pip Boydell suggests some applications for the plethora of IT equipment available, and looks ahead to what the future has in store.
