Conditions of the carpus in the dog

    Richard Whitelock qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1989 and spent two years in mixed practice in Gloucestershire before electing to focus on small animal surgery. He was awarded the diploma in veterinary radiology in 1994, the ECVS diploma in small animal surgery in 1997, and the RCVS diploma in small animal surgery (orthopaedics) in 1998. He is currently a director of Davies White Veterinary Specialists near Hitchin, Hertfordshire, where he runs the orthopaedic service. He is an RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics) and a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.

Abstract

THIS article draws together the pertinent anatomy of the complex carpal joint, and outlines the investigation of carpal disease in the dog. The aetiology, presenting signs and treatment options for orthopaedic conditions of the canine carpus are discussed.
