Routes to undertaking a certificate
  1. Jacqui Molyneux

Jacqui Molyneux qualified from Bristol in 1981. She initially entered small animal practice in Liverpool and later moved to County Durham. In 1984, she started a practice in the ex-steelworks town of Consett. In 1997, the practice moved into new purpose-built premises and, in 2000, obtained hospital status. She gained the RCVS certificate in small animal surgery in 2000.

2. Studying in practice

AN article in the last issue discussed the process of undertaking a postgraduate certificate within a university, as part of a residency programme (In Practice, June 2002, pp 341-344). In this article, Jacqui Molyneux, who opted to pursue an RCVS certificate in small animal surgery while working in practice, discusses the other side of the coin. A successful outcome was again the result, but certain aspects of the process and pressures are unique to the practice-based route.
