Nurturing nurses for the benefit of all

    Carole Martin qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1987 and is head nurse at the Clifton Villa Veterinary Surgery in Truro. She achieved the diploma in advanced veterinary nursing (surgical) in 1993. She is a past‐president of the BVNA and the chief veterinary nursing examiner for the RCVS.


IN order to gain the VN qualification, veterinary nurses must demonstrate a high standard of nursing and patient care supported by the necessary underpinning knowledge. However, is this expertise fully appreciated by employers, practice teams or even the VNs themselves? In this article, Carole Martin makes the case for allowing VNs to reach their full potential, to the mutual benefit of everyone involved.
