    Joanne Leathers qualified from Liverpool in 1996. She worked in mixed practice for six years before deciding to concentrate on emergency and critical care, whereupon she took up her current position of senior veterinary surgeon at the Gateshead clinic of the Vets Now group.


BY 2002, Joanne Leathers had been qualified for several years, and was working in a busy mixed practice. But disillusionment was creeping in: a gruelling work schedule seemed to leave no time for a social life or outside pursuits. She decided a change was needed. Here, she describes her new life working in an out‐of‐hours emergency clinic.
