Employment Law
Too young to work, too old to work? 2. Adopting an age‐positive approach
  1. Matthew Clayton

Matthew Clayton qualified in 1996 as a solicitor and joined Rickerbys Solicitors in Cheltenham as an associate in 2002, where he is now a partner specialising in employment law. He has regularly led seminars for the Veterinary Practice Management Association, among other business organisations.

THE introduction of new legislation this October that will ban discrimination at work on the grounds of age will be the most significant change to UK employment law in the past 30 years. The regulations will affect everyone who is in partnership, and anyone with employees. In the last issue, Matthew Clayton described why the forthcoming age discrimination laws were needed and how they will operate. In this article, he discusses some of the practical implications for veterinary practices and what steps they should be taking to prepare themselves in advance of October.
