THIS autumn, a new veterinary school opens its doors and a fresh intake of veterinary students embarks on their training, no doubt full of anticipation about what their future careers might bring. But what is the reality of being a young vet in practice ‐ and does it meet that expectation? Here six young veterinary surgeons, three male and three female, between two and six years into their careers, reflect on why they became vets, what this has meant in terms of their day‐to‐day working and personal lives, and what the future might hold. The responses are all as individual as the respondents, and make fascinating reading.
