Opportunities available under the Rural Development Programme

    Dominic Rowland is a DEFRA civil servant and was responsible for policy on the social and economic elements of the Rural Development Programme for England from 2005 until May 2009. He has worked in a range of policy posts in Defra, including animal welfare, Common Agricultural Policy reform and implementation of the Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food.


THE Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) is a seven-year, £3.9 billion programme of investment in the rural environment and in rural businesses and communities. Dominic Rowland describes the support delivered by the Regional Development Agencies, and, in particular, outlines the opportunities for the livestock sector.
