If you were reading the Veterinary Record in 1980, you would have found, on average, at least two adverts for practices for sale and three adverts offering jobs with partnership prospects or partnerships wanted in each issue. Read it today and you may find a practice for sale once a month and a partnership advert hardly ever. What has been behind this change? Almost certainly it relates to the changes in attitude and demands of graduates over the past 30 years. In this article, Malcolm Wright looks at the past, present and future of practice ownership to gain an insight into how these changes have evolved and their effects on the future.
