    Richard Sibley is a senior partner in a seven vet mixed practice in mid-Devon. He is president of the BCVA and a founder member and current chairman of its farm assurance group. He was involved in the creation of the BCVA principles of veterinary involvement in farm assurance and the formulation of the BCVA herd health plan for farm assurance.


TWENTY-FIVE years ago, the gurus of the veterinary profession extolled the benefits of preventive medicine and the 'whole herd' approach to cattle health care. Although the message was slow to penetrate, their ideas and ideals are now being received and applied. In this article, Richard Sibley discusses some of the important considerations when formulating and applying a herd health plan on a dairy farm.
