    Fish graduated from Cambridge with a degree in maths and computer sciences. He worked for seven years playing bass for West End musicals and as a session musician before brief stints as a sound engineer, an IT support engineer and an IT support analyst. He was management information systems manager for a major IT distribution company for 16 years and is now a fulltime science writer at Güralp Systems, a seismological instrument company.


SAFEGUARDING computer systems requires constant diligence, but need not be as complicated as it sounds. In this article, Fish outlines the nature of the threats, and suggests simple, low-cost ways of protecting computer systems against them.
